Find files fast with search

Search saves you from clicking through folders when you already know part of a file's name, and behind the scenes a deeper index helps Quorum's briefings find documents by what they say, not just what they are called.

Searching by name

The search box at the top of the Files page is labelled Search all files. Start typing and the list narrows to files whose names match, across every folder in your workspace at once. You do not need to be inside the right folder first.

Each result shows the folder it lives in. Click that folder path to jump straight there, which is handy when you want to see a file in context or tidy up its neighbours.

Clear the search box to go back to browsing the folder you were in.

How content search powers briefings

Every document Quorum can read as text is also indexed by meaning. When a briefing is prepared, Quorum searches this index to find the documents most relevant to the topic, even when the file name gives nothing away. A file called "Q2_v3_final.docx" can still be found because of what is written inside it.

This index is built automatically when files are uploaded or imported, and it is rebuilt whenever a file's content changes, so search always reflects the current version. Deleted files stop matching immediately.

What is and is not indexed

Text is read from PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument documents, and plain text formats such as Markdown, CSV and JSON. Two cases worth knowing about:

• Scanned PDFs that are pure images have no text layer to read, so their content cannot be indexed. The file is still stored and downloadable.
• Images, audio, video and archives are stored as they are and are found by their file names only.

If a file shows a small warning triangle, indexing hit a problem. Hover over it for details, and see the article on file processing status for what to do next.
