Roles in your workspace
What the Owner, Admin, Member, and Service bot roles can do, and the rules that protect the workspace owner.

Roles in your workspace
Roles keep your workspace tidy by giving each person exactly the access they need. Every member holds at least one role, shown as a badge on the Users page and next to your name in every app's sidebar.
The roles
- Owner. The person who created the workspace. Owners can do everything admins can, and they are the only ones who can modify another member who holds the owner role. There is exactly one way to become an owner, which is creating the workspace, because the owner role cannot be assigned afterwards.
- Admin (shown as Tenant admin when assigning). Admins manage the workspace: they can add users, edit member names and emails, change roles, disable accounts, reset passwords, resend invites, and remove members. Admins also complete workspace onboarding steps and manage calendar connections.
- Member. The standard role for your team. Members use the Quorum apps, manage their own account and password, and set up their own listening profile. They cannot manage other users.
- Service bot (shown as Service in some apps). A role for automation accounts that other Quorum services use. You will rarely assign this to a person.
Rules that keep you safe
A few guardrails apply no matter who you are:
- You cannot change your own role or status, so an admin can never accidentally lock themselves out. The dialog explains "You cannot change your own role."
- You cannot remove yourself from the workspace.
- The workspace owner cannot be removed, and only the owner may modify the owner's account.
- The owner role cannot be granted through the Users page. If you try, Quorum answers "The workspace owner role cannot be assigned".
Changing someone's role
- In the Account app, open Users and select Manage next to the member.
- Choose the new role under Role: Member, Tenant admin, or Service bot.
- Select Save changes.
The change applies to the member's next request in any Quorum app, so there is no need for them to sign out and back in for most changes to take effect.
